  3. Prepare 1 tsp Urad Dal (soak in 2 Tbsp. water for 20 min)
  4. Take 11/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  5. Get 1 tsp Ginger, grated
  6. Make ready 2 Green chillies, slit into half
  7. Get 10-12 Curry leaves
  8. Take 1/4 cup desiccated coconut

In this recipe, the beetroot is steamed and seasoned with mustard leaves, curry leaves, asafoetida and coconut. Sometimes we add finely chopped onions as well to give it an. Beetroot poriyal is a mild dish with medium or less spice, cooked as south Indian accompaniment for lunch along side rice and other gravies. I am making beetroot poriyal only second time in my life.

Instructions to make Beetroot poriyal by @Radikalkitchen:
  1. Heat oil in a pan.
  2. Once the oil is hot, add urad dal,, mustard seeds, let them crackle for a few seconds.
  3. Add green chilli, ginger and curry leaves and cook for another few seconds.
  4. Now add the beetroots. Mix well. Add the salt. Cover and cook on low heat for 8-10 minutes. The beetroots should be cooked al dente.
  5. Add desiccated coconut and mix well.

Beetroot poriyal is a mild dish with medium or less spice, cooked as south Indian accompaniment for lunch along side rice and other gravies. I am making beetroot poriyal only second time in my life. I had no thoughts about it, but it's been ages since I had this veggie. Beetroots are packed with many nutrients and is a natural blood purifier. It is good to include it in our diet once in a week.
